| Moose on the Loose in Weymouth |
Once again, Members of Burnham Moose lodge 123 and Burnham Ladies circle joined with other Moose International members and friends from Swindon, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Stroud, Dursley, Bristol, Portishead, Weston-Super-mare and Winscombe in their 16th annual Valentines weekend holiday, to one of their favorite haunts - the Crown Hotel in Weymouth.
Entertainment was organised every evening during the half board weekend from Friday until Monday morning. The peak event of the weekend was a black tie dinner dance on Saturday evening. Over one hundred people sat down to the Saturday evening dinner, which was followed by speeches and toasts to Moose International and the Queen etc.
A massive grand draw boosted Moose Widows’ and widowers’ welfare during the Saturday evening’s dancing, and all profit from the weekend goes towards supporting welfare commitments. Sunday brought a coach trip to Lyme Regis where participants were able to stroll in the unseasonable sunshine, along the town quay, and shop for souvenirs.
Weekend co-organiser Terry Cornelius said; “This was our third visit to the Crown Hotel, and after the excellent standard of catering and service we received it certainly will not be the last.”
During the dinner Legion 8 President Trevor Savage , in his speech, gave special thanks to Terry Cornelius and his wife Yvonne, for their work in organising the weekend.
Moose lodge 123 publicity officer Mike Lang explains; “The weekend used to be organised by the Moose International Western Area, but during the present re-organisation of Moose International within the UK, this has ceased, to be replaced by more concentrated smaller districts, so Moose Legion 8 has stepped into the breach, within the old Western Area, taking over some of the welfare duties.”
